Hi, I am James, though the only people who call me that are my Mum and very occasionally my wife. To almost everybody else I am Snooky.
There are a few things you should know about me.
- I have never been good at running. Ever. I was consistently at the back during cross country at school. I was never fit enough to keep running for an entire football match.
- I am still not a good runner. Though I have been running for 9 years now (taking it up properly at the age of 34), I consistently finish at the back in all the races that I do. I have also finished dead last in more than one triathlon in my time.
- Most of my endurance efforts that I have done in the past have failed.
- Despite all of the above, I am still giving it a damn good shot.
The few facts above are not so you feel sorry for me. My lack of innate ability, combined with the fact that I spent my entire teenage years, 20’s and half of my 30’s doing absolutely zero exercise what so ever, mean that I am starting from a tough spot.
That being said, I do have a tiny bit of athletic pedigree behind me.
In 2013 I decided to try and complete an Ironman. In 2015 I completed Challenge Weymouth Iron Distance Triathlon, raising over £8000 for the wonderful Chestnut Tree House in the process.
Here is a little video of me going over the line. The marathon at the end was completed in torrential rain but we made it.
Fast forward to 2023 and I am taking on more challenges
This blog will chart this journey.
Hope you enjoy it.
